Tyreeq Bakinson looks set to seal a loan move away from Sheffield Wednesday.

Tyreeq Bakinson joined Sheffield Wednesday from Bristol City in July 2022 on a £5.9k-per-week contract, before making 26 appearances as they were promoted from League One.

The midfielder has struggled for game-time this term though, having been left out of the team for Danny Rohl‘s first 12 games in charge before he was brought back into the picture on Boxing Day.

Despite coming in handy during an injury-ridden spell for The Owls, Bakinson now looks set to leave Hillsborough until the end of the season.

Recent reports had claimed that the 25-year-old could be about to move to Belgium with Standard Liege, but The Star journalist Alex Miller has now claimed he is in talks over a move to Charlton Athletic.

Sheffield Wednesday will look to offload Bakinson to free up space for new arrivals, while it is thought that Charlton midfielder Louie Watson could be about to be recalled by Luton Town and so they are on the hunt for a replacement.

Bakinson’s impending departure will leave Danny Rohl rather light in the middle of the park.

Will Vaulks is set to spend a couple of weeks on the sidelines with a hamstring injury, while Jeff Hendrick is also out of action. George Byers will miss the next two matches through suspension and will return for the home clash against Coventry City later this month.

Rohl has already given a rather positive update on incomings though, recently saying: “For me, it’s important we make some quick transfers and have the players immediately here. But you never know what happens. Sometimes, you think, ‘Now, we are very close’ and then something new happens.

“We have a shortlist, for sure, with some good players. Let’s see if we can bring the players to Wednesday. We have delivered some good arguments and it is very helpful to come closer to the line… We will be proactive and will not wait for something to happen. We will be proactive to do something in the market.”

When will Sheffield Wednesday sign Tyreeq Bakinson’s replacement?

Sheffield Wednesday were forced to push Liam Palmer into midfield in the win over Hull City, with options in the midfield extremely bare.

Tyreeq Bakinson was eventually brought on as a substitute, though Momo Diaby’s return to the squad will relax the pressure over the next couple of games.

The Frenchman was sidelined for much of the first half of the campaign and was registered to play against Hull at the last-minute, though wasn’t fit enough to make the starting line-up.

After weeks in training, we could well see Diaby make his first start since August in the FA Cup.

With Danny Rohl suggesting transfers could come very soon, Sheffield Wednesday could cope to have a new midfielder by the time they face Southampton.
