Danny Rohl has hinted at some potential transfer activity at Sheffield Wednesday ‘in the next days’.
Danny Rohl looks to have dramatically turned things around at Hillsborough following his arrival in October.
The German arrived with Sheffield Wednesday glued to the bottom of the table, but after weeks of hard work, Rohl’s impact began to show.
The Owls have now won five of their last seven matches in the Championship and sit only three points from safety, while they will be hoping to cause an upset and leapfrog Huddersfield Town with a win over Southampton next week.
Rohl has managed to get the best from the likes of Bailey Cadamarteri, Will Vaulks and Akin Famewo, while he has also brought players such as Marvin Johnson and Djeidi Gassama out from the cold.
However, Sheffield Wednesday know that they desperately need to bolster their ranks in the January transfer window if they are to avoid relegation.
The Owls certainly can’t rely on 18-year-old Cadamarteri to get the goals all season, while the departure of John Buckley and (soon-to-be) Tyreeq Bakinson also leaves them light in midfield.
While the January window is known to be the harder of the two, Rohl has provided a very positive update on the club’s transfer business.
Speaking in today’s pre-match press conference (as per Yorkshire Post), the coach said:
“We are still in good meetings and talks. There are always three parts, there’s the new player, the old club and the new one about speaking to find agreements.
“We are still working and hopefully, we can sign some players in the next days, for sure.
“We will try our best. Hopefully, we will make the right decisions.
“For me, it’s important we make some quick transfers and have the players immediately here. But you never know what happens. Sometimes, you think: ‘now, we are very close’ and then something new happens.
“We have a shortlist, for sure, with some good players. Let’s see if we can bring the players to Wednesday. We have delivered some good arguments and it is very helpful to come closer to the line.
“We will be proactive and will not wait for something to happen. We will be proactive to do something in the market.”
How will Sheffield Wednesday fare in the transfer window?
Sheffield Wednesday’s transfers have been a bit all over the place for years now.
Loan deals for the likes of Jeff Hendrick and Ashley Fletcher in the summer have already proven to be disastrous, while Mallik Wilks and Ben Heneghan can add to a pool of failed moves the year before.
Sheffield Wednesday desperately need to get this one right though, and it is likely that many fans believe in Danny Rohl to do the business.
The 34-year-old has worked with RB Leipzig, Bayern Munich, Southampton and the German national team, so he undoubtedly knows what real talent is.
The Owls need to be careful about balancing quality and quantity, especially given the lack of space in the 25-man squad registration.
