Sheffield Wednesday have been linked with a new goalkeeper ahead of the January transfer window.
Recent reports have credited Sheffield Wednesday with a loan move for Brighton goalkeeper James Beadle.
The 19-year-old is currently on loan at Oxford United in League One where he’s had an impressive 2023/24 season so far, keeping seven clean sheets in 21 league appearances.
Danny Rohl has opted for Cameron Dawson as his no.1 so far this season.
He’s received mixed reviews throughout the campaign with many calling for Devis Vasquez to be reinstated as the starting goalkeeper.
Now with Beadle being linked, it could suggest that the Owls are on the lookout for a new goalkeeper in January, and here are three who Sheffield Wednesday could realistically sign next month…
Neil Etheridge
Birmingham City look set to offload a few players next month, and Neil Etheridge has been tipped to move on.
The Filipino international is currently playing no.2 to John Ruddy but boasts a wealth of Football League experience, having played for a number of clubs but mainly being known for his spells with Cardiff City and Birmingham.
At 33 years old, he’s a tried and tested name who could come in and offer some reassurance in goal, or at least some improved competition to Dawson at Sheffield Wednesday.
Ethan Horvath
The 28-year-old Nottingham Forest man is well out of contention this season having not made a match day squad since September.
A USA international, Horvath spent last season on loan at Luton Town and made 47 total Championship appearances as he played a key role in the Hatters’ eventual promotion via the play-offs.
He more than proved his worth in the second tier last season and given that he’s so far out of favour at Forest, he could well be available for a move next month.
Marek Rodak
Fulham have some good goalkeepers on their books right now, with one being Marek Rodak.
The Slovakian international is another with promotion experience in the Championship, playing a key role in Fulham’s 2021/22 promotion-winning campaign.
But since the Cottagers reached the Premier League, Rodak has barely played.
He made just two Premier League appearances last season and hasn’t featured in the top flight since, playing no.2 to Bernd Leno.
Like Horvath, Rodak could be another who’s pushing for a move in January, but this one would be ambitious for Sheffield Wednesday.
