Sheffield Wednesday have emerged as potential suitors to sign Brighton goalkeeper James Beadle. The Owls look set to be busy in January and the 19-year-old is attracting interest.
Right now, the England youth international is on loan in League One with Oxford United. He’s been a regular in the team this season, making 27 appearances for the club.
Wednesday aren’t the only team in the mix to sign Beadle. He’s also fancied by Birmingham City as clubs look ahead to the transfer window that opens next month.
Wednesday now want to sign James Beadle
According to The Star, the teenager is on the radar of Danny Rohl as he looks to strengthen his rearguard. Cameron Dawson is the current number one, with AC Milan loanee Devis Vasquez as the current deputy.
It’s not really a secret that Rohl would love his goalkeeper to possess strong ability when it comes to playing out from the back. In Beadle, he may feel that he can get a goalkeeper who provides an upgrade in that sense.
Brighton could be tempted to recall Beadle in the New Year. It’s claimed that the Seagulls would potentially look to loan him to a Championship club as they look to do whatever is best for his development.
Beadle could star for Wednesday but he shouldn’t be a priority
If another goalkeeper was to come in on loan, surely it would mean that Vasquez’s loan was going to be terminated. It certainly seems highly unlikely that Wednesday would be allowed to sign Beadle if he wasn’t going to be the number one.
Dawson has done some good stuff in recent weeks. Although he was at fault for a goal at Norwich, he did save a penalty and helped Wednesday claim a huge win at Stoke earlier this month.
Rohl might feel as though the club can do better, with Beadle seemingly earmarked. The stopper looks like one for the future and earlier this season, he was called ‘fantastic’ by Oxford captain Cameron Brannagan for his heroics.
Beadle has further EFL experience with Crewe where he played nine times and kept three clean sheets last season. He’s also played regularly for the Brighton under-21 and under-18 teams.
Wednesday do have some gaps to plug next month. Signing a goalkeeper would perhaps come as a bit of a surprise and it will now be interesting to see what transpires between the posts.
