Sheffield Wednesday are set to part ways with one of their players before tonight’s deadline.
A number of Sheffield Wednesday players have been heavily linked with the exit door, with the likes of Josh Windass and Liam Palmer linked with a move to the MLS.
Meanwhile, Marvin Johnson was the subject of a £1 million bid from Ipswich Town and Michael Smith was wanted by Derby County – but they are all expected to stay at the club.
One man who looks to have played his last game for the club is George Byers, with The Star reporting that he is expected to undergo a medical with Blackpool this afternoon.
Despite making 17 starts in the Championship this term, there had been rumours of Byers leaving Hillsborough in recent days.
The likes of Blackpool and Barnsley were said to be interested in the 27-year-old, as well as clubs in Germany, but it now looks to be the former that has won the race for his signature.
The report claims the two clubs have come to an agreement that will see Byers join the Seasiders on loan until the end of the season.
Byers’ contract with The Owls is set to expire in the summer, so it is highly unlikely that he will play for the club again.
Will Sheffield Wednesday bring in a replacement?
It comes as a surprise to see George Byers leave Sheffield Wednesday, especially given how important he seemed to be to Danny Rohl prior to his suspension.
With Tyreeq Bakinson and John Buckley already leaving the club this month, it begs the question as to whether The Owls will look to add another midfielder to their ranks before the deadline passes.
Sheffield Wednesday already have practically their whole midfield out of contract in the summer, so they can’t really afford to be waiting until the end of the season to bring in fresh options.
