Sheffield Wednesday have enjoyed a very busy summer transfer window.
They certainly haven’t been quite as active in recent weeks, but that doesn’t mean their transfer business is complete.
Sheffield Wednesday have just over a week before deadline day and are still eager to bolster their squad, especially after their recent 4-0 defeat to Sunderland.
It became glaringly obvious that one position isn’t as strong as it could be on Wearside, with the Owls playing against Sunderland without a defensive midfielder at all.
Danny Rohl has already added Nathaniel Chalobah to his ranks, but his lack of game-time and current injury means he can’t be relied on all on his own.
Wednesday are now looking to bring in another No.6 and, after missing out on Gustavo Puerta, they will now need to find themselves targets elsewhere – and quick.

Three defensive midfielders that could join Sheffield Wednesday
Isaac Hayden
Rohl has long been fond of Hayden, having tried to sign him on loan from Newcastle United in January.
The midfielder went onto join QPR and impressed, with the London club eager to bring him back.
It has now been reported that Hayden is available on loan once again and is yet to be snapped up, so it is a surprise that the Owls haven’t already pushed ahead to try and bring him to Hillsborough.
Ethan Erhahon
Erhahon joined Lincoln City in January 2023 and really impressed in his first full campaign.
The 23-year-old was named the Players’ Player of the Year as he racked up the fifth-most tackles in League One (107), the third-most interceptions (68) and the sixth-most blocked passes (49).
Lincoln’s chief executive told BBC Radio Lincolnshire in June that he had ‘attracted attention’ from the Championship, but he is yet to leave the club.
Brendan Sarpong-Wiredu
Sarpong-Wiredu caught the eye last season as he enjoyed his second season in League One with Fleetwood Town.
The midfielder made the eight-most tackles in League One (97) and the fifth-most interceptions (65) as Fleetwood were relegated. Sarpong-Wiredu can also play in central defence and as a right-back.
TEAMtalk claimed earlier this summer that Stoke City were eager to sign the 24-year-old on a bargain deal following Fleetwood’s relegation, but he currently still remains at Highbury Stadium.
