Sheffield Wednesday’s search for a new midfielder remains underway as deadline day approaches.
The Owls have already snapped up Nathaniel Chalobah and Svante Ingelsson, but they remain eager to bring in one more midfielder to bolster their options.
The former’s current injury has left Sheffield Wednesday with little squad depth in that area, with Danny Rohl pushing the club to bring in reinforcements before next week’s deadline.
The Yorkshire outfit have been linked with a number of players and have recently expressed interest in Bayer Leverkusen’s Gustavo Puerta.
Reports have claimed Wednesday have been tracking him ‘for weeks’, but faced competition from Hull City and Danish side Brondby.

While it was previously claimed that Brondby could ‘blow them out of the water’ with a £3 million bid, it now appears that Hull are leading the race.
According to Fussball Transfers, Puerta has ‘agreed’ to join the Tigers and are now in further negotiations over a move.
The report does claim that his next club hasn’t been ‘finally decided’, but talks are in ‘full swing’ and a solution is expected very soon.
The Owls will be coming under increasing pressure to bring in a new midfielder after they were dominated in the middle of the park in defeat to Sunderland. However, it looks unlikely that it will be Puerta who fills that void.

The Star previously claimed that Rohl is also considering a move for Alfie Devine, but he is also far from the player they need.
Wednesday’s defeat to Sunderland made their need for another defensive midfielder very clear, with Barry Bannan expected to play as the deepest of the trio.
Chalobah can’t really be relied upon, and in his absence, it makes it very easy for opponents to dominate their rather attacking midfield three.
The Owls need a new midfielder and ideally one that can be ahead of Chalobah in the pecking order, because his previous form and fitness problems could prove to be a real issue in the Championship this season.
