For Sheffield Wednesday, 2024 has been a largely positive year so far.
Despite Sheffield Wednesday still sitting in the bottom three, also coming off the back of a 6-0 defeat away vs Ipswich Town last time out, 2024 has been mostly positive for Danny Rohl‘s side.
The Owls have picked up 19 points from a possible 39 in 2024 which puts them well in the midtable pack, with Wednesday winning four-straight games through February and March.
And there’s been some really strong individual performances from the players so far this year.
Here we give our own verdict and ratings out of 10 for every Sheffield Wednesday player so far in 2024…
James Beadle one of three 8/10s for Sheffield Wednesday
Beadle has really grown in confidence and ability since joining on loan from Brighton.
He’s shown his qualities as a ball-player but also as a shot-stopper with some find performances against the likes of Birmingham City and Millwall in particular. 8/10
Di’Shon Bernard
Bernard remains the Rolls Royce defender that everyone knew he was soon after signing last summer.
Apart from a pretty needless red cards in the 2-1 win vs Bristol City, he’s been pretty flawless for the Owls. 7/10
Bambo Diaby
Not much so say here; Diaby lost his place in the XI after that Southampton horror show back in January and failed to impress on his next start vs Leeds United earlier this month. 5/10
Akin Famewo
Famewo is a fairly handy player for Rohl, able to play at left-back or as one of three centre-backs, though there’s not many highlights for the 25-year-old.
He seems to be struggling to find consistency in his game. 5.5/10
Michael Ihiekwe
Ihiekwe has been a real trooper for the Owls, putting in some commanding performances at centre-back. 7/10
Dominic Iorfa
We saw the very best of Iorfa against Plymouth Argyle.
He put in an energetic performance and showcased his qualities as a physical defender who loves to get forward, making for a steady return to the team. 6.5/10
Liam Palmer
Palmer is playing something of a utility role once again, filing in wherever necessary.
He was instrumental in the four-game winning streak and deserves a solid rating for his 2024 so far. 6.5/10
Will Vaulks
Like he has been throughout this season, Vaulks has been hit and miss.
On his day, he’s perhaps one of the best central midfielders in the league, but too often he can go missing like in games against Leeds and Ipswich where he’s barely involved. 6.5/10
Barry Bannan
Class and consistent as ever, and with a few standout performances in games against Millwall and Rotherham United. 7.5/10
Momo Diaby
Diaby has been very poor under Rohl. His return to action was highly anticipated following his impressive debut earlier in the campaign, but he’s not had much of an impact. 4/10
Marvin Johnson
Johnson shows his class when he plays at left wing-back, but struggled as a left-back in the last game vs Ipswich.
On the whole though, he remains a real creative outlet for the Owls and an injury to him would be a real issue for Rohl. 6.5/10
Bailey Cadamarteri
The early hype around Cadamarteri seems to have died down a bit.
He remains a useful player to come off the bench and provide some energy, though he’s another who’s not had much of an impact in 2024. 5.5/10
Ashley Fletcher
Fletcher hasn’t returned to the matchday squad since his 12-minute sending off in the game at Millwall last month.
An overall poor 2024 showing after it looked like he was starting to turn a corner. 4/10
Djeidi Gassama
Gassama has cemented his place in the XI, showing much more consistency than Antony Musaba and scoring an important winner against Plymouth Argyle.
Some issues still to iron out, but a god showing from the Frenchman. 7/10
Anthony Musaba
Musaba has been painfully inconsistent in 2024.
He remains a player with quality and his goals and assists have played a huge part in the turnaround this season, but too often he goes missing in games where Wednesday really need his spark. 6.5/10
Ian Poveda
What a signing. He’s a cult hero among Wednesday fans with his close control and trickery having wowed supporters, and having made Wednesday a very dangerous attacking side. 8/10
Ike Ugbo
Another quality signing. He’s not scored in three now, but six goals in 11 Championship appearances for Wednesday speaks volumes.
Without his goals, the Owls would be down and out already. 8/10
Mallik Wilks
A very frustrating player where Wednesday fans are concerned.
Previous goal-scoring numbers for Hull City prove that he’s a player with ability, but he’s yet to show that in a Sheffield Wednesday shirt. 5/10
