Sheffield Wednesday earned another monumental win last weekend.
Sheffield Wednesday beat Bristol City 2-1 in the Championship last weekend.
The win leaves the Owls three points from safety after both QPR and Millwall picked up wins, in what was a positive weekend for the teams near the foot of the table.
Ike Ugbo scored a brace in the win vs Bristol City; the loan signing from Troyes has now scored five in his last four games for Sheffield Wednesday, following his January arrival at Hillsborough.
He’s helping to fire Danny Rohl‘s team to safety and EFL pundit Sam Parkin has now had his say on the 25-year-old.
Sam Parkin hails ‘brilliant’ Ike Ugbo after Bristol City brace
Speaking on the Championship Check-In podcast, Parkin had his say on Canadian international Ugbo after his performance against Bristol City, saying:
“Brilliant double. What a great brace. I thought they were two excellent goals. Real confident striker’s goals. Someone who you would anticipate has been scoring 15, 20 goals in the EFL, season after season.”
He added:
“I particularly like the first [goal]. The touch was absolutely sublime, then just bent the finish in on his weaker left foot… He is bang at it, at the moment.”
Former Chelsea youngster Ugbo spent the first half of the season on loan at Cardiff City where he scored four goals in 20 Championship outings.
He now has five in seven for the Owls and is rapidly becoming a fan favourite and a key player under Rohl, whose side go up against Rotherham United on Saturday.

At Cardiff, Ugbo was raw. He certainly showed glimpses of a good striker, but after seeing how well he’s done at Wednesday, it was maybe a case of Ugbo not having enough service in Wales.
But with Ian Poveda now providing some magic in the final third, and Anthony Musaba coming back to life too, Ugbo has the service required to score goals, and he’s doing exactly that.
Interestingly, Ugbo’s goals are all coming inside the box; he’s showing a real nouse inside the 18-yard box, like Parkin suggests, with his first goal against Bristol City being a really simple, yet impressive goal.
And after a stop-start career so far, Ugbo will be delighted that he’s finally scoring goals regularly in English football, with a happy and in form striker being something that so many teams crave for.
Rohl has now unearthed a prolific no.9 ahead of the final run-in and it’s starting to look like Sheffield Wednesday will climb out of the bottom three, though there’s of course a long way to go; three points remains the gap to safety.
This weekend the Owls travel to Rotherham United for a huge crunch match at the foot of the table; anything but a win here would mean points dropped for Sheffield Wednesday.
