Sheffield Wednesday beat Bristol City 2-1 in the Championship today, with one man stealing the headlines for the Owls.
Sheffield Wednesday welcomed Bristol City to Hillsborough for another proverbial cup final for the Owls, in their fight for survival in the Championship this season.
Danny Rohl‘s side had won two of their previous three before today, beating Millwall 2-0 at The Den in their last outing.
And after a fairly subdued opening 15 minutes of the game, Sheffield Wednesday found themselves in front thanks to a sharp turn and finish from Ike Ugbo.
Bristol City levelled soon after, with Jason Knight heading home from a corner, but Ugbo then glanced home a shot from Marvin Johnson to put the Owls ahead at half-time.
The second half was much more subdued and cagey. Neither side really laid a finger on the other, with Sheffield Wednesday seemingly happy to play out the game and pick up another massive three points.
‘Brilliant’ Ike Ugbo hailed after Bristol City win
Ugbo joined on loan from Troyes in the January transfer window and has now scored five goals in seven Championship outings for the Owls, with all five having come in his last four games.
The Canadian international is earning huge praise from Wednesday fans as he fires the club towards Championship safety, and his performance today caught the eye of BBC reporter Rob Staton.

Ugbo’s career so far has seen him playing out on loan for various clubs in England and Europe, with mixed results.
And in the first half of the season at Cardiff City, the 25-year-old only scored four goals in the Championship, but he’s already eclipsed that amount under Rohl.
Rohl utilises Ugbo as a loan striker and with the likes of Liam Palmer, Pol Valentin, and Johnson constantly putting crosses into the box, Ugbo has plenty to feed off.
He showed today, especially with his second goal, that he’s a real poacher-type striker; he simply let Johnson’s shot glance of his head and past Max O’Leary in the Bristol City goal.
And amid this scoring vein of form, it looks like Ugbo is really starting to turn a corner in his career, whilst enjoying the moment with Sheffield Wednesday.
The Owls have lacked a no.9 all season but now they have a prolific one in Ugbo, who could yet be Sheffield Wednesday’s saviour in the Championship this season.
Today’s win leaves the Owls in 23rd, but now three points from safety.
