Sheffield Wednesday’s January transfer window could see a lot of coming and going at Hillsborough, with the Owls certainly having some deadwood they could shift.
For the Owls, potential January signings looks set to be focussed on the loan market, with finances tight as ever.
In the build up to January, Sheffield Wednesday were placed under registration embargo and lifted out of it two weeks later, with unpaid HMRC debt being the reason for the registration embargo.
Speaking recently, Danny Rohl shared his relief at coming out of the embargo ahead of January, with the Owls boss having repeatedly stated the need for added quality, via loan signings, in the New Year.
But given the uncertain financial picture at Hillsborough, the possibility of seeing some players moved on in January seems high.
And for Rohl, there’s a good few names he could cash in on to shed the wage bill and potentially give himself more resources for new signings.

Mallik Wilks’ stock rising after Sheffield Wednesday loan exit
One such player who the Owls could cash in on in January is Mallik Wilks, who joined Rotherham United on loan in the summer.
Wilks, who was spotted in the away end at the Steel City derby earlier in November, has three goals in 13 League One outings for the Millers, whose fans have quickly warmed to the 25-year-old.
He’s their joint second-highest scorer in League One this season and a key player for a Rotherham side that are currently slumped down in 19th place of the table.
With Wilks impressing, having found his shooting boots after a tough couple of years, and then with his contract set to expire at the end of this season, a January sale of Wilks seems ideal for all involved.

Will Rotherham United buy Mallik Wilks from Sheffield Wednesday in January?
Rotherham aren’t known for spending much money in the transfer market. But ahead of January, Millers boss Steve Evans has revealed that the club plan on being busy, in a bid to get their season back on track.
Evans told Rotherham Advertiser at the start of November: “We are really going to be active in January, we know that for sure.”
With Wilks out of contract and seemingly having no future at Wednesday, he won’t cost a lot. But whether a deal is within Rotherham’s financials remains to be seen.
For Wednesday, though, desperate times call for desperate measures. A permanent sale of Wilks in January whilst his stock is high would be a very shrewd financial move from the club.
Whether that’s to Rotherham, or whether Sheffield Wednesday have to recall Wilks and then find a permanent buyer, is currently unclear.
But cashing in on Wilks before losing him for nothing next summer seems like an obvious January move for the Owls to make.
