Hull City signing who Sheffield Wednesday wanted in the summer surely regrets move now

Danny Rohl may have had his eye on one Hull City player on Tuesday night, during Sheffield Wednesday’s 2-0 win at the MKM Stadium.

Sheffield Wednesday got back to winning ways on Tuesday night with a commanding win and all-round performance against Championship strugglers Hull City.

Since, Hull City have sacked Tim Walter as manager, and could well reignite their summer interest in Rohl.

That, however, seems an unlikely move for the time being. Rohl is eyeing an active January transfer window at Wednesday and looks set to scour the market for loan signings.

During the summer transfer window, Sheffield Wednesday were linked with a horde of players, with 11 eventually making the move to Hillsborough.

There was also a number of exciting names who didn’t make the move to S6, with one being Gustavo Puerta.

The Colombian won the Bundesliga title with Bayer Leverkusen last season but then faced an uncertain summer, before sealing a loan move to Hull City.

Gustavo Puerta surely regrets Hull City move after Sheffield Wednesday interest

During the summer transfer window, Sheffield Wednesday were linked with Puerta, who had plenty of interest.

The 21-year-old midfielder was wanted by both Hull City and Wednesday on loan, though it looked at one stage like he was going to seal a £3million move to Brondby.

Instead, Leverkusen sent him on loan to Hull City who have the option to buy him at the end of the season.

But it’s not been an easy start to life at the MKM Stadium for Puerta who’s featured just eight times in the Championship so far, coming off the bench against Wednesday on Tuesday.

Sheffield Wednesday under Rohl, and under the guidance of head of recruitment Kevin Beadell, have looked far and wide for new players.

They’ve had links with names in the MLS and throughout Europe, then signing the likes of Olaf Kobacki and Yan Valery from Europe in the summer.

But the Owls are yet to make use of the German market which, given Rohl’s connections in the country, is surprising.

Rohl worked with Red Bull Leipzig and Bayern Munich before arriving at Hillsborough, even working with the German national team too.

The Puerta link is the kind of link we should maybe see much more of at Sheffield Wednesday in future transfer windows, with the Bundesliga boasting a lot of good young players available for loan.
