Sheffield Wednesday have left themselves with plenty of work to do in this final week of the January transfer window.
Sheffield Wednesday have signed just James Beadle and Ike Ugbo on loan this month.
Danny Rohl would surely have been hoping to have a few more through the door by this point in the month, but the Owls have been beaten to a number of transfer targets.
The main one that springs to mind is midfielder Conor Coventry who opted for a move to now managerless Charlton Athletic, where he plays alongside Wednesday loanee Tyreeq Bakinson.
A central midfielder then seems to remain a priority, and here we look at five who Sheffield Wednesday could sign before February 1st…
Joe Hodge
Wolves hotshot Joe Hodge made his Premier League debut last season, featuring six times in the top flight.
But the 21-year-old is yet to feature in the Premier League this season and there’s been recent murmurs of potential loan exit for the ex-Manchester City talent.
Hodge is relatively inexperienced but given his City upbringing and Premier League experience with Wolves, he could be a player with bags of potential, and a loan move to Sheffield Wednesday could kick-start that potential.
Malcolm Ebiowei
The former Derby County talent joined Crystal Palace in 2022 and has since made three top flight appearances for the Eagles, spending time on loan at Hull City in the second half of last season.
He featured 12 times in the Championship but failed to make much of an impression for the Tigers after being deployed in a number of different positions.
Ebiowei is an attacking midfielder and so he’d bring something new to the Wednesday first-team; he’s also able to play on the flanks, so he could be a very useful addition for Sheffield Wednesday.
Han-Noah Massengo
The former Monaco prospect joined Burnley as a free agent in the summer, after seeing his contract at Bristol City come to an end; he made 99 Championship appearances for the Robins.
But he’s yet to make his Premier League debut for the Clarets. The 22-year-old has featured just once in the Carabao Cup and appears to be well down the pecking order at Turf Moor.
With midfielders well-stocked at Burnley, Massengo could be one who’s sent out on loan in the final week of the window, and there’d no doubt be plenty of Championship suitors should that be the case.
Dominic Ball
The Ipswich Town midfielder could perfectly fit the no.6 role that’s currently up for grabs at Sheffield Wednesday. Ball is a hardened midfielder who never shies out of a tackle, and he’s an experienced Football League name too.
He was a favourite during his three years at QPR before he then helped Ipswich Town earn promotion from League One last season; if the Tractor Boys bring in a new central midfielder of their own, the out of favour Ball could well become available.
Ryan Woods
Ryan Woods has endured a tricky couple of years. He’s played for four different clubs since 2021 and was recently brought back to Hull City after spending the first half of the season on loan at Bristol Rovers.
Woods though is a tried and tested Championship player with 274 total appearances to his name in the second tier, across spells with Brentford, Stoke City, Millwall, Birmingham City, and now Hull.
He seems to be well down the pecking order at the MKM Stadium and so he could be a shrewd loan addition for a lot of teams in the second tier.
