Sheffield Wednesday have been handed a boost in their pursuit of Ike Ugbo.
The Owls have made it very clear that they want to bring the striker back to the club, having netted seven goals whilst on loan last season.
Sheffield Wednesday’s bid was knocked back by Troyes though and it seemed to be proving a mighty challenge to re-sign him, with finances and huge interest proving to be a major obstacle.
However, it was reported yesterday that Ugbo is very keen to return to Yorkshire and if Wednesday can meet his valuation then they are likely to win the race.
It is believed that Troyes could demand north of the £2.5m they paid for him two years ago, but there are still huge question marks as to whether the Owls can afford such a fee.
Danny Rohl won’t want it to become a huge saga up until the final days of the window and they may have to look elsewhere if they can’t afford him.
Wednesday don’t have to cough up huge amounts of cash to afford a goalscorer though, with one of them still available for absolutely nothing.

Sheffield Wednesday should swoop in for ex-Stoke City striker
Tyrese Campbell became a free agent when he was released by Stoke City at the end of the season, though his bad luck with injuries was a major contribution to his departure.
The ‘excellent’ 24-year-old was previously a huge hit at the bet365 Stadium, bagging 15 goal contributions during the 2022/23 season and finishing as their joint top scorer.
Campbell has a total of 36 goals and 21 assists in 164 games for the Potters, but his career has been hampered by injuries.
The striker spent almost a year on the sidelines with a knee problem during the 2020/21 campaign, while he managed only 14 starts last term due to a hip injury.
Campbell looked to be back to full fitness at the end of the season though and scored in consecutive games against Southampton and Bristol City.
It wasn’t enough to earn himself a new contract though and he now finds himself without a club.

Campbell is clearly a huge talent though and The Athletic previously reported that he had attracted interest from Premier league clubs such as Everton.
The top flight clubs are unlikely to come back in for him now though after his difficult 2023-24 campaign and that could leave Wednesday free to swoop in for him.
Recovering from long-term injuries is always difficult, but if a player has proven himself to have huge quality then sometimes they can be worth taking the risk.
Campbell can add goals to the Owls’ squad and if it doesn’t work then it isn’t too much of a big deal as they didn’t pay a penny for him.
