Sheffield Wednesday are rapidly running out of time to find a new striker.
Sheffield Wednesday did add Ike Ugbo to their ranks earlier in the window, however reports claimed that Dejphon Chansiri was still eager to spend big on a proven goalscorer before the deadline passes.
The Owls looked to keep their promise when they went all in to sign Orlando City striker Duncan McGuire over the past few days.
The Yorkshire outfit saw a bid turned down for the 15-goal forward over the weekend and went onto follow up with multiple further offers.
The club were open to coughing up seven-figures to bring McGuire to Hillsborough, but they now look set to miss out on the attacker as he is set to join Blackburn Rovers in a £2.3 million deal.
Sheffield Wednesday are now left with just over 24 hours to bring in a proven striker and are running out of options, while they will certainly want to avoid panic buying.
Here are three players Sheffield Wednesday could look to sign on deadline day instead of Duncan McGuire…
Aaron Collins – Bristol Rovers
Aaron Collins scored 16 goals and provided eleven assists as he was named the League One Player of the Season last term.
The 26-year-old hasn’t been quite as prolific this time round, though he still has eleven goal contributions in the third tier to his name.
The Gas have already rejected a £600,000 bid from Bolton Wanderers, but could sell him on for just shy of £1m – significantly less than what The Owls could have paid for McGuire.
Macaulay Langstaff – Notts County
Macaulay Langstaff has been on fire in recent years, smashing in a whopping 42 goals in only 75 games for the Magpies.
Sheffield Wednesday would have tough competition to sign Macaulay Langstaff, with the likes of Coventry City, Wrexham and Peterborough United all interested.
However, the likes of Sunderland, Birmingham and Middlesbrough have reportedly withdrawn their interest and could potentially pave the way for The Owls to make their move.
Notts County have reportedly placed a £1.5 million valuation on the striker’s head this month, though they will probably be eager to keep hold of him at this point in the window.
Joe Gelhardt – Leeds United
Joe Gelhardt was in high-demand across the Championship this time last year and eventually joined Sunderland on loan.
The ‘outstanding’ striker’s spell on Wearside didn’t quite go to plan, managing three goals and three assists before returning to Elland Road following their relegation.
Gelhardt hasn’t been given much of a chance this term either, making only two starts and featuring for six minutes in the league since August.
The youngster showed glimmers of hope in the Premier League and is certainly a huge talent, though proved during his time at Sunderland that he can’t really play as a long striker.
Gelhardt could have a positive impact if Sheffield Wednesday played someone alongside him though.
