Sheffield Wednesday look set to lose out on yet another January transfer target, with the Owls falling behind in a particular transfer chase.

And now it looks like they’re set to lose out on another; Duncan McGuire.
The Orland City striker has been heavily linked with a move to Hillsborough ahead of the January transfer deadline on Thursday; it’s said that Danny Rohl‘s side are set to make a third offer for the 22-year-old, who is keen on a move to Europe.
But it looks like Sheffield Wednesday’s Championship rivals Blackburn Rovers are set to win the race for McGuire.

National World journalist Chris Wheatley has revealed on X that McGuire is now set to sign for Wednesday’s rivals Blackburn Rovers, after their interest was initially revealed just last night.
Wheatley revealed that McGuire is ‘on the verge’ of sealing a £2.3million move to Ewood Park, and that Rovers’ offer was ‘more favourable’ than Sheffield Wednesday’s.
Already this month, Sheffield Wednesday have been beaten to the likes of Conor Coventry who opted to drop down a league and join Charlton Athletic on a permanent deal, and Darko Gyabi who joined Plymouth Argyle on loan from Leeds United.

Coventry, Gyabi, and now McGuire, and who knows how many more names might have slipped through Sheffield Wednesday’s grasp this month.
It’s an unwanted, common theme emerging for the Owls and it shines a light on just how hard transfer business can be; especially in January and especially for clubs near the bottom of their respective table.
Although Wednesday’s pursuit of McGuire isn’t completely dead in the water, it’s very difficult to see them beating both Blackburn to the signing now, unless the Owls table a huge offer which doesn’t seem too likely.
But with bids having gone in for the player, it shows that Dejphon Chansiri is ready to spend something in the final days of the window, which look set to be frantic for all involved at Wednesday.
A striker remains a key priority and if a deal for McGuire does somehow get over the line after this latest update then it would be a huge bolster to the Owls’ survival chances this season.
