Sheffield Wednesday take on Sunderland in the Championship on Sunday.

Sheffield Wednesday travel to the Stadium of Light this weekend for a repeat of their final day showdown last season.

Danny Rohl took his side to Sunderland in their final away game of last season needing a point to ensure their safety; Sheffield Wednesday beat Sunderland 2-0 thanks to goals from Liam Palmer and Josh Windass.

Now, Rohl takes his side to Sunderland for their first away outing of this season, and it’s a much-changed first-team squad for the Owls.

So far this summer, 10 new players have arrived at Hillsborough, including Yan Valery.

Sheffield Wednesday signed Valery early doors this summer with the right-back reuniting with his former Southampton assistant coach Rohl.

The 25-year-old right-back started the opening day win vs Plymouth Argyle and claimed the Sky Sports Man of the Match award for performance.

Ahead of the trip to Sunderland, Valery spoke to the Owls press, and here’s three things he said that fans will love…

“We had a clean sheet. We played good. So it was just like the cherry on top of the cake [to get MOTM].”

Yan Valery on settling in at Sheffield Wednesday

“It was really good. We have a really good group of lads here, so it as easy to settle, even if there were a lot of new players.

“It feels like we’ve been together a really long time, so it’s really nice, and I think you can see on the pitch, we really have a good group, we work hard.

“It was really easy to settle and even for my family, we found quite quick a house.

“We [Valery’s family] like the city, as well, it’s a really nice city. In every aspect it was a really good first two months for us.”

Yan Valery is a key signing for Sheffield Wednesday this season

There’s a lot to like about Sheffield Wednesday’s new signings so far, with the club having clearly put a lot of thought into the type of players they’ve signed.

And Valery looks like one of the more impressive signings so far.

He adds Premier League experience and overall quality to the side, bolstering a right-back position that was very light before.

The 25-year-old looks set to be the starting right-back ahead of Pol Valentin, and his Owls debut proved why.

He’s a very attacking and versatile right-back who compliments the style of play under Rohl.

And in Valery, Valentin now has some added competition to help him continue on his upwards trajectory.

Sunderland vs Sheffield Wednesday kicks off at 12pm on Sunday.
