Sheffield Wednesday have made a new addition to their youth ranks.

Sheffield Wednesday have handed a professional contract to 18-year-old striker George Brown.

It follows what was an uneventful deadline day for the Owls, though Brown has been trialling with the club’s U18s throughout the summer.

There’s been a noticeable shift towards focus on the youth ranks at Sheffield Wednesday since Danny Rohl’s arrival in October last year.

Rohl wants the club to place more emphasis on their academy and on producing more players like Bailey Cadamarteri and goalkeeper Pierce Charles, who’ve risen through the youth ranks in S6.

There’s also been a focus on adding more names to their youth teams, with Brown being the latest.

Who is Sheffield Wednesday new signing George Brown

Brown is a product of the Ultimate Football Coaching Academy in Leeds, where he’s played since the age of 13.

He earns his first professional contract with the Owls for whom he’s played six times for the U18s this summer, scoring twice.

Having previously trialled with the likes of Grimsby Town, Brown scored 30 goal in just 18 matches with the Ultimate FCA academy last season.

He’s trained under the likes of one-time Arsenal striker Isaiah Rankin too.

Brown said of his move to Hillsborough: “This is something every kid dreams of, I’ve joined a massive club, it’s a great achievement and I can’t wait to get started now.

“The intensity levels go up, the speed of play goes up but it’s important not to overthink things at times, you’ve just got to play your football and hopefully that is good enough to impress.”

The blueprint that George Brown must follow at Sheffield Wednesday

As a young striker now part of the Sheffield Wednesday ranks, Brown will no doubt look at Cadamarteri’s career path, and try to emulate.

Cadamarteri was prolific at U18s level and has since gone on to make an impact in the first-team, with Sheffield Wednesday sending the 19-year-old out on loan this summer.

Cadamarteri has joined Lincoln City on a season-long loan and has since featured twice as a substitute.

Brown may well be hoping to get a sniff at the first-team later on this season, though right now he’ll be focused on impressing for the U18s side.

For Rohl, it’s another exciting name to keep an eye on. There’s a growing list of exciting young talents at Sheffield Wednesday and Rohl must find a balance with them, and his more senior player.
