Sheffield Wednesday duo Pierce Charles and Declan Moses have both been called up to Northern Ireland U19s squad.

The club confirmed on their website that they will be taking part in a mini tournament, where they will face Portugal, Hungary and Czech Republic. They will be under the guidance of former West Bromwich Albion centre-back Gareth McAuley.

Both players featured in the U19’s last game, a 3-2 defeat to Italy. It was Moses’ debut, where he scored in the second half.

Both Charles and Moses have been regular for Wednesday’s U21 side, where they have enjoyed a successful season so far. They currently sit in third position in their professional development league, seven points behind Sheffield United.

Charles in particular has been impressive, which has been taken notice by first team manager Danny Rohl.

Last week, Rohl spoke about the potential of Charles featuring for the first team.

He said: “He’s very good on the grass. He can play football and he has a lot of solutions, which is something that I like. He’s trained very hard with the first team, and if he keeps training hard then maybe there’s a chance to come in.

“But at the moment I’m very happy with both of the goalkeepers that are here, and it’s a challenge. I think the goalkeeping group is strong, and that’s important for us.”

Charles’ impressive start to the season for the U21s could potentially see him make his first team debut this season.

Rohl has recently hinted at making a change at goalkeeper after Cameron Dawson conceded four in the loss to Millwall on Saturday afternoon.
