Sheffield Wednesday manager Danny Rohl has hinted at potentially changing the goalkeeper after a poor performance from Cameron Dawson against Millwall.
Dawson conceded four goals as Wednesday lost 0-4 at Hillsborough on Saturday, in what was an emphatic win for Millwall in their manager’s Joe Edwards’ first game in charge since taking over last week.
The result means Wednesday are still bottom of the Championship, nine points adrift from safety.
Rohl drops hint on goalkeeper
Speaking to the Sheffield Star following the match, Rohl said:
“It’s hard for the fans.
“They come here expecting a good game, and then we lose 4-0 – so I can understand them. This is football, for me it’s about showing a reaction from our side and bringing a new energy in – and then they will love us again if we have a good performance.
“With the goalkeepers I’ve decided in the last five games that Cameron is my goalkeeper, and we have battle for this position. Let’s have a look now what happens in the next week.”
Journalist for Yorkshire Live, Ricky Charlesworth, also slammed Dawson for his display, pointing out a ‘big error’, after giving him a three out of ten in his player ratings.
“Another game he’ll want to consign to the bin. Positioning was questionable for large parts and he made a big error for the third, spilling it into Harding’s path. Booed by a small section of home fans.”
Should Dawson be dropped?
28-year-old Dawson has been the goalkeeper in all of Rohl’s games in charge, with AC Milan loanee Devis Vasquez preferred under former manager Xisco Munoz.
But after this poor performance against Millwall, we could well see Rohl make a change and put Vasquez back between the sticks after the international break.
Both goalkeepers have not been great this season, so it might be better to see how Vasquez is, as he is better with his feet.
