Sheffield Wednesday added a former England international to their ranks during the summer transfer window, snapping up Nathaniel Chalobah.

Albeit boasting just the one England cap in his career, former Chelsea midfielder Nathaniel Chalobah added definite quality and experience to the Owls first-team squad when he arrived.

Sheffield Wednesday signed Chalobah on a free transfer after his West Brom release at the end of last season. But for the 29-year-old, it’s not been a smooth sailing at Hillsborough.

He featured once in pre-season, against Werder Bremen in Germany, then missing the start of the Championship campaign owing to a muscle injury.

Chalobah got fit and Danny Rohl handed him his debut in the Carabao Cup win against Grimsby Town back in August. Playing an hour of the game, Chalobah picked up another injury that’s ruled him out since.

Nathaniel Chalobah’s Sheffield Wednesday wage, and how much he’s earned so far

Many might have guessed that Chalobah is one of the highest-earning players at Sheffield Wednesday given the calibre of some of the clubs he’s played for in the past.

Per Capology, Chalobah earns £20,000-a-week at Wednesday, making him the club’s second highest-earning player behind skipper Barry Bannan on £24,000-a-week, and on the same as Yan Valery, Dominic Iorfa, and Ike Ugbo.

Chalobah joined Sheffield Wednesday in mid-July and has so far been with the club for 17 full weeks, meaning he’s made £340,000 since joining, and £340,000 per appearance for the Owls.

More staggering is that Chalobah has made £5,483 per minute played for Sheffield Wednesday this season, without having played a single minute of Championship football either.

When is Nathaniel Chalobah expected back from injury?

Chalobah’s injury seems like a niggling one with his return date having been pushed back a couple of times now.

He was originally due to return to action after the October international break, but after this November break now seems a more likely return date for the Englishman.

Speaking before the Steel City derby, Rohl gave an injury update on Chalobah, saying: “Nath is back on the grass. He trained the last two days with the team.

“Of course, he needs a little bit more minutes, more practices. But it’s a huge step forward.”

Chalobah, Akin Famewo, Olaf Kobacki, and Michael Ihiekwe make up the Owls’ injury list right now.

Sheffield Wednesday return to Championship action with a home game against Cardiff City on November 23rd.
