Sheffield Wednesday have been slammed for an ‘alarming’ problem under Danny Rohl.
After an extremely tough start to the season that saw them fail to win a game until the end of October, Sheffield Wednesday looked to have picked themselves up heading into the festive period.
The Owls claimed 13 points from a possible 24 in December, before kicking off the new year with three consecutive wins in all competitions.
At one point, the team only needed a single win to potentially climb out of the relegation zone.
However, they appear to have crumbled since that brilliant run of form that saw Danny Rohl nominated for Manager of the Month.
The Owls have now lost four of their last six games and drawn two, while conceding four goals on three occasions.
While their focus was on their Championship rather than their FA Cup campaign, the 4-1 defeat to Coventry City earlier this week has led to criticism, with Adrian Clarke claiming it is ‘unforgivable’.
Speaking on What The EFL podcast, the former midfielder said: “As for Sheffield Wednesday, second mauling in a matter of days.
“They let in three goals in eight minutes against Coventry; this after conceding four goals in 12 minutes against Huddersfield.
“That’s pretty unforgivable; that is alarming and if I am Danny Rohl, it is tough for him to deal with because it shows that his team lack backbone.
“They are brittle and they collapse like a pack of cards.
“Big game against Birmingham because if it’s another collapse, the fans won’t have it.”
Who is to blame for Sheffield Wednesday’s rapid downfall?
Danny Rohl is certainly well loved at Hillsborough and brought a lot of positivity to the club following his appointment in October.
The fans have showed their support for him and the players have also admitted how brilliant he is on the training pitch.
However, that doesn’t ignore from the fact that results at the minute just aren’t acceptable.
Danny Rohl definitely isn’t going anywhere, but the players need to drastically improve because it is often individual mistakes that are costing Sheffield Wednesday vital points.
As soon as they concede once, they crumble, and Danny Rohl has to pick up the pieces.
There is no doubt that if he can’t turn things around very quickly then the Owls will drop down to League One, then it would be a huge surprise if the German coach wasn’t picked up by another club, as he is clearly a manager with huge potential.
