Danny Rohl‘s side have now won five of their last six games in the Championship and have kept four clean sheets, leaving them only two points from 16th place.
The Yorkshire outfit could finally climb out of the relegation zone this weekend, but face the huge task of picking up points against promotion favourites Leeds United. It is a massive game for the Whites too, who could potentially move up into the top two with a win of their own.
It was only five weeks ago that the Owls found themselves eight points from safety, now they are a mere seven points from reaching the dizzy heights of 13th place in the Championship.
It has been a huge turnaround for Sheffield Wednesday, with Marvin Johnson claiming the staff have been a ‘massive help’, but not just for their coaching.
Speaking to the official club website, the 33-year-old said: “Our form is phenomenal and we have kept our focus. Some people have written us off this season, saying we are dead and buried, but there’s a lot of fight left in Sheffield Wednesday.
“As a group, the players, the staff, we couldn’t be more connected. You can see the togetherness with the staff. They treat everyone the same.
“Each one of them has got their own characters, you can speak to them all individually and they have their own opinions and it doesn’t sound like it’s just filtering down from the gaffer. Mentally they are a massive help for the players.”
Where does Marvin Johnson’s future lie?
Marvin Johnson is one player who seems likely to leave Sheffield Wednesday if they are relegated this summer.
The winger put pen to paper on a new contract at the start of the season, though it is unclear when it expires.
Johnson was the subject of a £1 million bid from Ipswich Town in January, making it extremely likely that he would drop down to League One if we are unable to stay up.
The veteran has been really important to the Owls this season and would be a huge loss, but it is just another reason for Rohl’s side to push to stay in the Championship.
The players clearly really love Danny Rohl and what he is building at Hillsborough, so if they can stay up, it would be a surprise if most of the star players didn’t opt to remain at the club and see what magic he can conjure up next season.
