Josh Windass thinks one Sheffield Wednesday man will go onto bigger things very soon.
Josh Windass was once again absent from Sheffield Wednesday’s squad as they beat Millwall 2-0 yesterday.
The midfielder has been sidelined since the start of the month and was set for an extended period out after suffering another injury.
Windass has now missed out on 12 matches under Danny Rohl, but has remained a vital player when available. The 30-year-old has picked up four goals and an assist in his last eight appearances for the Owls.
Rohl clearly thinks very highly of Windass, while he has also heaped praise on his manager on a number of occasions.
Having previously declared the German as the best manager he has ever worked with, the former Rangers ace has now admitted that he thinks Rohl will end up much higher than Hillsborough.
Speaking on Pitch Side YouTube channel‘s live stream, Windass said: “‘Our manager is unbelievable. I think he should have been in from the start of the season.
“Our manager’s serious, honestly. He’s been at Bayern and in Germany. He’s another level. He’ll go on.”
Can Sheffield Wednesday keep Rohl?
Danny Rohl has picked up 1.18 points per match in the Championship this term – picking up eight wins and two draws in 22 matches.
That is a huge difference to Xisco Munoz’s 0.2 PPM, in which he failed to win any of his 10 matches in charge of the Yorkshire outfit.
Rohl now has a 36% win percentage and, assuming he had kept that up if he had joined in the summer, then the Owls could have had another few wins under their belt.
It seems pretty obvious that the club would be in a much better position if that was the case, but all we can do now is hope the 34-year-old can turn things around and close that four point gap over the next few months.
Whatever happens though, there will be a tough battle to keep hold of him at the end of the season. There will certainly be plenty of interest in his services – especially if he manages to keep Sheffield Wednesday up.
It would be a huge concern if he was to leave, because Rohl represents one of a limited amount of positives Dejphon Chansiri has brought to the club in recent years. Losing him could send them back into a downwards spiral – and who knows who the Thai owner would bring in to replace him.
