Danny Rohl has spoken out about the ‘important’ conversations he has had with Dejphon Chansiri since joining Sheffield Wednesday.
Speaking to The Star, the Owls boss confirmed that he is still ‘in contact’ with the owner after a turbulent month.
Dejphon Chansiri had already parted ways with two managers before welcoming Danny Rohl to the club in October.
The German made a bold move joining Sheffield Wednesday as his first managerial appointment, with supporters already falling out with Chansiri and financial problems hanging over their head.
The Owls faced yet another transfer embargo earlier this month after the club had failed to pay off outstanding HMRC debt. Chansiri then went onto bizarrely ask fans to raise £2 million in order to save the Yorkshire outfit.
The Thai businessman went onto pay the debt and fell pretty silent afterwards, though Rohl has insisted that he still talks to the owner and has a ‘good relationship’ with him.
“I’m still in contact with the chairman, it’s important,” he said.
“We have a good relationship, good communication, it doesn’t matter whether he’s here or not. We have meetings on Zoom when he’s not here, when he is here it is in person… I think everybody in the club knows what I want to do, and what I want to do with this club.
“I have a version, a big goal, with this club. At the moment, though, it’s about taking points – and we know this. We will see.”
Is Dejphon Chansiri prepared to help save Sheffield Wednesday?
Dejphon Chansiri and Danny Rohl can have a good relationship and the Owls chairman can suggest he is on board with the 34-year-old’s plans, however this ‘big goal’ certainly won’t be met if Chansiri refuses to put his hand in his pocket as soon as January rolls around.
However, Sheffield Wednesday are in the process of overhauling their backroom staff and could have a new recruitment team in place in time for the upcoming transfer window.
That would surely suggest that Rohl is going to be allowed to further strengthen his squad in the new year, which could prove to be the difference between relegation and narrowly staying up.
Things have looked a lot more positive at Hillsborough in the last month, though that extra bit of talent could be what they needed to add some points on the point.
A narrow defeat to Birmingham City at the weekend means Sheffield Wednesday are bottom of the Championship and ten points from safety.
