Sheffield Wednesday owner Dejphon Chansiri has been slammed by journalist Alan Biggs for calling on fans to invest another £2 million into the club.
Chansiri has called on fans to invest £2 million into the club in order to pay off the HMRC bill.
He has said if 20,000 fans each play £100, then that will cover everything, including the bill and player wages.
He has claimed that cash flow issues are the reasons for him not being able to pay it off himself.
Manager Danny Rohl is said to be meeting with Chansiri to discuss the issues.
It’s also said that the players and staff could yet go unpaid, with their payday set to be the last day of the month, and that Sheffield Wednesday could also be placed under a three-window transfer embargo should these issues persist.
Journalist slams Chansiri
Journalist for the Sheffield Star, Alan Biggs, posted on his X account (formerly known as Twitter) saying that having 26,000 fans come to the win over Rotherham on Sunday is not then trying to save the club, he does not know what is, slamming Chansiri.
“There were around 26,000 #SWFC fans in a crowd of 29,000 at Hillsborough on Sunday – to watch a team rock bottom of the Championship. Owls fans also sell out virtually every away game. If that’s not forking out to “save” your club then I don’t know what is.
“It’s plainly wastage (not shortage) of money that’s plunged #SWFC into this abyss. The shortage has been in knowledge & expertise – despite no shortage of good advice.
“Fans entitled to be “negative” about that – & still positive enough to keep turning up!”
Desperate times for Wednesday
For Wednesday, this is not good news.
It is highly unlikely that 20,000 fans would be willing to pay £100 each, and rightly so. Chansiri’s plea really is shocking.
It is desperate times for the Owls, who need a new owner to be able to pay off the bills and invest into the club.
A three-window embargo could be catastrophic for Wednesday, with them sat bottom of the Championship already. Chansiri has to sort this out as soon as possible.
