Danny Rohl has reacted to Sheffield Wednesday’s recent transfer embargo ahead of a ‘big’ meeting with Dejphon Chansiri.
Speaking in his post-match press conference (via Sheffield Star), the Owls manager wanted to focus on the club’s first win of the season.
It was confirmed over the weekend that Sheffield Wednesday had been placed under an embargo over unpaid money to HRMC. This means that the club is banned from registering any new players until the embargo is lifted, which won’t occur until the debts have been paid off.
However, club owner Dejphon Chansiri said last month that he would stop funding the Owls due to the treatment he was receiving from fans.
Despite the disappointing news, things weren’t all bad for Sheffield Wednesday over the weekend. The Championship outfit picked up their first victory of the campaign as they beat Rotherham United 2-0, taking them to eight points from safety.
Danny Rohl was asked about the embargo but was very quiet in his reaction, wishing to only talk about their performance at Hillsborough.
He said: “Today I just want to speak about the performance out on the pitch.
“I know this is a big topic for the club but for me it was to just win this game today, and now it’s about enjoying the night and enjoy the football we played and that’s it.”
Rohl also explained that he had a ‘big meeting’ coming up with Chansiri following the recent news.
When asked how he’d be celebrating his first win as a manager, he said, “I think I’ll just go for dinner with my family and enjoy the evening. Then we have to go forward and prepare for the next week of training. I have a big meeting also with the chairman, and it’s all about going forwards.”
Can Danny Rohl keep on improving despite off-pitch issues?
Sheffield Wednesday‘s win over their local rivals is hopefully a turning point on the pitch, with Danny Rohl hopefully the man to take them forward in terms of steering clear of relegation.
However, there is only so far they can go when they have some blatant problems off the pitch.
The Owls will need to add new players in January if they are to stay up, while Rohl will become very frustrated if he can’t make this squad his own.
Things will continue to look very bleak at Hillsborough if changes aren’t made very soon.
