Sheffield Wednesday have finally won a game in this season’s Championship and yesterday, Dominic Iorfa was in fine form. The Owls won 2-0 thanks to two first-half goals from Michael Smith.
It was a complete performance from Wednesday as they collected three points at the 14th time of asking this season. Danny Rohl was taking charge of his first match at Hillsborough and was given a rousing reception.
It was the performance of Iorfa that caught the eye. The fans were delighted with his latest showing and The Star journalist Joe Crann was also in the mood to praise him after Rob O’Neill had praised goalscorer Smith on live commentary.
Iorfa praised after Wednesday display
The 28-year-old lined up as part of a three-man defensive unit yesterday. It was a tactical switch made by Rohl and it clearly paid dividends for Wednesday.
The team must build on this but in Iorfa they do have a player who is more than capable at this level. Crann was very impressed yesterday and he took to Twitter to rave about the player.
During the win for Wednesday, he posted: “It’s a fine sight watching Dominic Iorfa running at full pelt to make a big sliding challenge. Poetry in motion.”
Rohl must stick with Iorfa as Owls look to push on
If you listen to the song that Wednesday sing about Iorfa, he’s the fastest man in Yorkshire. Although that might be tongue-in-cheek, it’s fair to say that his pace will be huge for the Owls in this league.
Crann is right to praise Iorfa. He was outstanding yesterday and his commitment to the cause won’t have gone unnoticed in the eyes of his manager.
Rohl will be learning about his team every single day at the moment. With Iorfa in fine form yesterday, however, he might already be of the opinion that the defender is integral to Wednesday going forward.
