Sheffield Wednesday are leading Rotherham United 2-0 at half-time in this afternoon’s Championship clash. Michael Smith has fired the Owls into a deserved lead and Rob O’Neill has been singing his praises.

Wednesday went into this game without a win in 13 matches this season. Danny Rohl has seen small improvements in the two games prior to today, without reaping the rewards in terms of points.

Smith was handed the chance to lead the line for Wednesday. He showcased to the Millers exactly what they are missing with two clinical finishes to fire the Owls into the lead.

Wednesday will now hope to take this level of performance into the second half. The Owls badly need a victory and this looks like their chance to claim all three points.

O’Neill raves about Michael Smith

Shortly after the first goal, the renowned I-Player commentator, O’Neill, lauded Smith for his efforts in the South Yorkshire derby. It came after the 32-year-old had roared into a challenge to try and get his team going once again.

He said live on air: “He took his goal really well and it’s fair to say that Michael Smith looks fired up this afternoon.”

O’Neill has been delivering his verdict on Wednesday courtesy of I-Follow for many years. He was very impressed with Smith and hopefully, more goals can now follow.

Smith will be important for Rohl at Wednesday

Before today, Wednesday had gone 10 hours without scoring a goal. With Smith on the prowl this afternoon that drought came to an end in emphatic style.

The experienced player will be an important player for Rohl as he adapts to life in England. Smith knows where the back of the net is and he might just grab more in the second half this afternoon.
