Sheffield Wednesday boss Danny Rohl has been handed unwavering praise ahead of the clash against Preston.

The Owls are currently preparing for a clash against Preston North End, who they will welcome to Hillsborough in high spirits after Danny Rohl’s side previously recorded two successive away wins in the Championship.

Sheffield Wednesday will be hoping to make it three on the bounce, however they will have to do so without veteran midfielder Barry Bannan in-the centre-of-the-park after he picked up his fifth yellow card of the 2024/25 campaign in the 2-1 away win against Paul Warne’s Derby County.

Despite this, Rohl will have plenty of options to bring in to bolster the midfield ranks, with squad depth looking incredibly healthy for the German boss at this stage of the season.

Rohl’s squad management is something that he has been praised for by Preston North End boss Paul Heckingbottom ahead of the clash this weekend.

Paul Heckingbottom praises Sheffield Wednesday boss Danny Rohl over squad management

Sheffield Wednesday’s depth, not just in midfield, has been crucial to their success so far in the 2024/25 Championship campaign, and Rohl certainly has been able to find the perfect blend of giving youngsters game time in the side, whilst also prioritising experience within the ranks.

This has been recognised by fellow Championship managers, including former Blades boss Heckingbottom, who said, via the PNE website: “I think Danny [Rohl] has used his squad well – a good squad – so he’s still able to bring on good players from the bench and affect the games really positively.

“It shows that they’re a well-organised, hard-working team. I think that regardless of if they’ve been at their best and on top in a game, they’re still able to pose a real threat with the pace they’ve got, and they can be a really direct team.

“I think we know how dangerous they’re going to be and the fact that they’ve been picking up results as well when arguably they’ve not been playing the best football they’ve had this season, shows that they’re a tough team to play against.”

Recent Sheffield Wednesday results show how well-drilled they are under Danny Rohl

In Sheffield Wednesday’s previous five games, they have only lost once, which fell in the Steel City derby against the Blades at Bramall Lane.

This shows that, even if they are not quite at their best, they are able to grind out well-needed results, with the recent 2-1 victory against Derby County being the very pinnacle of that.

It is one of the main differences between this season and the last for Rohl and Sheffield Wednesday, with the Owls often capitulating when going behind, particularly away from home, in the 2023/24 Championship campaign, but there is no doubt that the German boss has seen off that issue in incredible fashion.
