Sheffield Wednesday’s list of former managers features some quite well-known names. And one former Owls boss is now shining with a new club.

Danny Rohl is currently the man in charge. Sheffield Wednesday appointed Rohl in October 2023 after their winless start to the season under Xisco Munoz, who now manages in Slovakia.

The Spaniard goes down as the worst Sheffield Wednesday manager in history after failing to win a single game in 12 matches in charge.

He’s closely followed by Tony Pulis who won one in 10 games as manager at Hillsborough, with other names of recent years having also left few fond memories, including Jos Luhukay and Garry Monk to name a couple.

Darren Moore, on the whole, was quite a well-liked Sheffield Wednesday manager. He certainly had his critics but he did what was asked of him, guiding the Owls out of League One in 2023.

Former Sheffield Wednesday manager Darren Moore shining with Port Vale

Moore left Sheffield Wednesday soon after the club secured promotion with a behind the scenes fall-out with owner Dejphon Chansiri being the cause.

Moore said his Sheffield Wednesday fallout wasn’t to do with money, despite Chansiri’s claims that Moore asked for a quadruple pay rise following promotion.

After a brief spell with Huddersfield Town last season, Moore took on the Port Vale job in League One, overseeing their relegation but having since started well this time round.

His side currently sit in 1st place of the League Two table after 16 games of the season and have lost just one of their last 12 in the league.

Similar to his Sheffield Wednesday achievement, Moore may yet guide Port Vale to promotion after overseeing relegation, with former Owls duo George Byers and Ben Heneghan in his side.

Darren Moore speaks out on ‘unique’ achievement with Port Vale

Moore has won the League Two Manager of the Month awards for September and October. He’s now won both the League Two Manager of the Month award and the Premier League Manager of the Month award.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Moore said: “For me as a manager, I’m probably unique one in terms of, I’ve played in all the four divisions, Prem, Championship, League One and League Two, and now I’ve managed in Prem, Championship, League One, and now managing for the first time in League Two.

“There’s different challenges and hurdles here in League Two. But some of them I’m really quite excited by in terms of the challenges that it presents.”

Moore has now managed West Brom, Doncaster Rovers, Sheffield Wednesday, Huddersfield Town, and Port Vale, but boasts the best win record with the Owls (51.16%), as well as the most games overseen (129 total).
