One Sheffield Wednesday loanee has earned himself one of the most complimentary comparisons after a stellar start.
Ian Poveda joined Sheffield Wednesday on deadline day with very little confidence, having managed only one start for Leeds United all season.
The winger had spent the last couple of seasons on loan with Blackpool and Blackburn Rovers, but had still only netted three goals across both spells before returning to Elland Road.
Once very highly rated at Manchester City, Poveda has quickly hit the ground running sine arriving at Hillsborough and is already making a very positive impact.
The Colombian has started the Owls’ last four games, picking up his first assist in the win over Birmingham City. The Yorkshire outfit have now won three of their last four games with him in the side.
Poveda has been hailed as ‘excellent‘ and ‘saucy‘ by the media, while reports have claimed Danny Rohl is already hoping to sign him permanently in the summer.
After a brilliant start to life in Sheffield, Poveda has now been compared to Wednesday hero Fernando Forestieri.
The Argentine joined the Owls in 2015 for £3 million and won the club’s Player of the Year in his first campaign. He netted 40 goals and provided 17 assists in 134 appearances for Sheffield Wednesday, and now remains as a fan favourite throughout the city.
How good is Poveda?
Ian Poveda has only been at the club for around a month, but receiving such comparisons is a really promising sign already.
The winger has been brilliant since his arrival and has sparked so much creativity and attacking threat that the team had previously struggled with, while the arrival of Ike Ugbo means he is able to finish off these big chances.
The pair came at the perfect time for the Owls and there is no doubt they will both play a key part in the rest of the season and could well be what keeps the club in the Championship.
