Sheffield Wednesday earned another monumental three points today, beating Bristol City 2-1 in the Championship.

Sheffield Wednesday now find themselves three points from safety in the Championship after a 2-1 win against Bristol City.

Ike Ugbo scored both goals as the Owls limped over the line with 10-men, with Di’Shon Bernard picking up a second yellow in the second half.

Bristol City pressed for a late equaliser but couldn’t find one, leaving Danny Rohl‘s side with three wins from their last four in the Championship.

Ike Ugbo shines, but Ian Poveda also praised

After a brace today, with five goals in his last four outings for Sheffield Wednesday, Ugbo steals the headlines.

But fellow January arrival Ian Poveda has been praised for another solid performance in blue and white; the Colombian international was all over the pitch today, popping up on the flanks and in the middle, beating players on the ball and creating openings for his teammates.

BBC journalist Rob Staton hailed Poveda as ‘excellent’ in today’s win:

As per Sofascore, Poveda made 23 out of 27 passes (85%), with 2 of them being key passes (joint-most of any Wednesday player), also winning 4 out of 11 duels (second-most of anyone on the pitch today).

Since joining on loan from Yorkshire rivals Leeds United on deadline day at the start of this month, Poveda has featured five times in the Championship, claiming one assist.

He’s now started the last four games for the Owls and has shown signs of progression following a fairly inactive first half of the season which saw him play just seven times in the league.

Poveda just as crucial as Ike Ugbo

Ugbo is certainly the man about Sheffield Wednesday right now.

His goals are steadily clawing the Owls towards safety, with Ugbo looking like he’s going from strength to strength and gaining huge amounts of confidence.

And as ever, the scorer rightly knicks the headlines. But Poveda is also earning a lot of fans at Sheffield Wednesday after another solid performance today.

He adds that bit of flair and unpredictability to the team; he’s got great attacking attributes, pace, and surprising power for a slight player, and the Colombian was popping up all over the pitch today.

He’s also creating a good relationship with Ugbo, it seems, with the pair often linking up in attack.

Poveda will be keen to add more goals and more assists to his game though, and an in form Ugbo could certainly help with the latter.

But so far, Poveda has proved to be a strong addition for the Owls, who now sit in 23rd place of the Championship table, but three points from safety.
