There were plenty of positives to take from Sheffield Wednesday’s performance against Brentford on Tuesday night, with several impressive individual performances.
On the night, though, it seems as though Pierce Charles claimed the bulk of the plaudits following the 19-year-old’s confident display against Premier League Brentford.
After the game, Sky Sports pundit Curtis Davies named Sheffield Wednesday goalkeeper Charles as the Man of the Match, after he made four saves to keep his side in the game.
He was also quick off his line and tidy in possession, giving Danny Rohl more food for thought ahead of James Beadle’s loan deal expiring next season.
Elsewhere, Marvin Johnson showed his class and experience with a standout display in defence, whilst academy man Gabriel Otegbayo looked solid in the centre of defence.
Both he and Charles stood up to Brentford’s barrage on the night. Another name who held his own was Sean Fusire.

Joe Crann praises Sean Fusire after Sheffield Wednesday lose at Brentford
At 1-1, Sheffield Wednesday looked like they were giving Brentford all kinds of problems. And the Owls were unfortunate to lose 5-4 on penalties after what was a solid showing from the spot kicks.
In midfield, Fusire did more than his share of running. He was up and down the pitch, going into tackles and moving the ball around when he got the chance to.
It looked difficult for him out there at times. But he kept on going and showed a lot of promise, catching the eye of journalist Joe Crann who posted on X after the game:
The 19-year-old has now started all three Carabao Cup games for Wednesday this season, being named on the bench twice in the Championship but having yet to make his league debut for the Owls.
Fusire was hailed after the Blackpool game earlier in the season, having shown improvements in each of his performances in the Carabao Cup.

Sean Fusire stats for Sheffield Wednesday against Brentford
Fusire didn’t see all that much of the ball against Brentford with Rohl clearly instructing his players to play wide rather than through the middle, with no Barry Bannan or Shea Charles as they were rested for Sheffield Wednesday.
That meant that Fusire recorded just 19 touches of the ball. But he completed 13 out of 14 passes, also winning one out of one ground duels against Brentford.
Fusire also made a clearance and an interception on the night, in what was an overall very spirited performance from the Owls.
Whilst the stats don’t paint a hugely impressive picture for Fusire, he did what was asked of him when possession did come his way, holding his own against a strong Brentford XI.
He’ll surely come into contention more so for Championship game time in the coming weeks now.
