Sheffield Wednesday striker Ike Ugbo is already ranking high in some all-time club records after his impressive start in S6.
Sheffield Wednesday have a new goal hero in their ranks in Ugbo.
The man on loan from Troyes has now scored five in his first seven Championship outings for the Owls, after scoring a brace in the 2-1 win over Bristol City last time out.
The win leaves Danny Rohl‘s side with a three-point gap to safety ahead of another crunch match away at bottom club Rotherham United this weekend.
And whilst the fight for survival is far from over, an in form Ugbo certainly gives the Owls renewed hope of beating the drop.
Ike Ugbo 10th in all-time goals-per-game charts at Sheffield Wednesday
Five goals in eight total appearances so far is some going for Canadian international Ugbo.
And it’s a record that’s shot him up the all-time charts for goals-per-game at Sheffield Wednesday.
As per Transfermarkt, Ugbo currently sits in 10th with a goals-per-game ratio of 0.63; the record is shared between five former Owls players from old and somewhat new, Will Trueman, Brian Davies, Tommy Ward, and Jack Allen, though Kenwyne Jones tops the list with the most goals.
Cult hero Jones scored seven in seven for the Owls, during a loan spell in the 2004/05 League One campaign; a goals-per-game ratio of 1.
And if Ugbo scores one against Rotherham this weekend, he’ll take his record to six in nine for the Owls, bumping his goals-per-game ratio to 0.66 and keeping his spot in the top 10.
Ugbo enjoying career boost after tough spell
It’s not been plain sailing for the 25-year-old.
Starting out at Chelsea, he was loaned out numerous times like so many Chelsea youngsters were, failing to settle down and failing to impress in spells lower down in the Football League.
But he caught a break in Europe, proving prolific in spells with Roda JC and Cercle Brugge.
Another somewhat dry patch followed with Genk and Troyes, and arguably at Cardiff City where he scored four in 20 Championship outings.
At Hillsborough though, Ugbo has found his scoring touch.
Rohl may be a decisive factor behind the upturn, with Ugbo getting plenty of service from the wide areas and taking his chances when they fall his way.
Keeping him fit and firing has become paramount for the Owls, whose game against Rotherham United kicks off at 3pm on Saturday.
