Here are five Sheffield Wednesday players from way back, who are still playing to this day.
Sheffield Wednesday and their history go many years back. Stretching from the Premier League right down to League One, with Danny Rohl now trying to bring the glory days back to Hillsborough.
He’s certainly got the Owls under Dejphon Chansiri back on track after a turbulent 2023/24, with Wednesday sitting in 15th place of the Championship table for this month’s international break.
And with no football until later in the month, let’s take a look back at some Wednesday players of old.
Here are five former Wednesday players who are still playing today…
John Bostock
Former Spurs and Palace youngster John Bostock promised big things in football. But he could never settle down, spending a lot of time out on loan during his early career.
Wednesday was one of his loan clubs, with the midfielder spending time in S6 during the 2011/12 season but failing to impress.
Bostock then made his name in Europe, mainly Belgium, later returning to England with the likes of Doncaster Rovers and Notts County.
He currently plays for National league Solihull Mors whom he joined in the summer.

Mark Beevers
Former Wednesday centre-back Mark Beevers was a well-liked player, coming through the Owls academy and going on to make 161 total appearances before leaving in 2013.
Since, Beevers has represented Millwall, Bolton Wanderers, and Peth Glory in Australia, but he’s now back in England with Bradford PA, joining the Northern Premier League Division One East club just last month at the age of 34.
Nile Ranger
Former Newcastle United striker Nile Ranger was on loan at Wednesday during the 2011/12 League One season, helping the Owls achieve promotion with a couple of goals during his time in S6.
Since, Ranger has been in and out of football, largely playing non-league. This summer, he made a return to the game after two years away, signing for Kettering Town.
Gary Madine
‘Gary Madine, goal machine’, played for the Owls between 2011 and 2015, scoring 28 goals in 113 total appearances.
Madine helped fire the Owls to promotion from League One in 2012 with 18 goals in the league that season.
Since leaving Hillsborough, the now 34-year-old has had successful spells with Bolton Wanderers and Blackpool, though his spell with Blackpool ended in 2023 owing to a serious knee injury.
But he retuned to professional football in August this year, signing for Hartlepool United in the National League.
David McGoldrick
David McGoldrick is best known for his time with Sheffield United. But he played for Wednesday long before he played for United.
He’s another who spent a very brief time on loan at Hillsborough, joining from Nottingham Forest for a short-lived spell in 2011.
McGoldrick made no lasting impressions in S6, but later enjoyed spells with Ipswich Town, United, Derby County and Notts County; he’s still with Notts County in League Two, age 36.
