Sheffield Wednesday get underway in the Championship this weekend.
Sheffield Wednesday host Wayne Rooney’s Plymouth Argyle in the Championship on Sunday.
The 2024/25 Championship season gets underway with Blackburn Rovers vs Derby County and Preston vs Sheffield United on Friday night, with the Owls in action on Sunday after an action-packed Saturday.
It’s the first game of Danny Rohl’s first full season in charge at Hillsborough, proceeding what’s been a very promising summer transfer window for the Owls.
Rohl has already welcomed nine new players to S6 and Sheffield Wednesday are expected to sign Ike Ugbo in the coming days as well.
And with so many new players in what is a new-look Sheffield Wednesday first-team squad, few know what to expect from Rohl’s line up for the game vs Plymouth.
A 4-2-3-1 formation looks nailed on with Rohl having mainly played that formation throughout the pre-season.
But personnel-wise, Rohl could mix things up a bit, and test out some of his new signings in what is a highly-anticipated game at Hillsborough.
Dom Howson’s predicted Sheffield Wednesday XI to face Plymouth Argyle
Journalist Dom Howson has now had a go at predicting Rohl’s Sheffield Wednesday XI for the visit of Plymouth.
Howson expects five of Sheffield Wednesday’s nine summer signings to start the game; James Beadle, Yan Valery, Max Lowe, Svante Ingelsson, and Jamal Lowe.
But Howson expects the versatile Jamal Lowe to eventually move out to the left side of the attacking midfield three, given the seemingly imminent arrival of Ugbo.

One Sheffield Wednesday player may feel hard done by this weekend
Howson’s team to face Plymouth seems like a sensible bet; Di’Shon Bernard may be the only question mark given the fact that he didn’t play in Liam Palmer’s testimonial match vs Leganes last time out.
But Pol Valentin may feel hard done to if he doesn’t start. The Spaniard was arguably Sheffield Wednesday’s most-improved player last season, really proving his worth in the second half of the campaign.
Valery though seems like a more rounded right-back, whereas Valentin still has room to improve.
But having some stern competition in Valery will hopefully see Valentin work on his game and improve even more next season.
And for Rohl, having two very good and attacking options at right-back will mean that he can chop and change the two next season, and keep his full-backs fresh.
