Barry Bannan currently sees his Sheffield Wednesday contract expire in the summer.
Bannan, 34, is now in his ninth season at Sheffield Wednesday, and on Saturday he looks poised to make his 400th appearance for the club.
The Scot currently has 399 appearances to his name in blue and white and he’ll no doubt lead his team out for what is another crunch match away at Blackburn Rovers this weekend.
And 7,000 Sheffield Wednesday fans will travel to Ewood Park and hopefully watch Bannan make history.
But with just three games of the 2023/24 season remaining, and with Bannan’s future at Hillsborough still up in the air, it could be an emotional milestone for the former Aston Villa man.
Barry Bannan discusses Sheffield Wednesday future

Bannan recently gave an honest take on future, saying earlier this month:
“I’ve not heard anything. I think it’s just a case of knuckling down for these last six games and what will be, will be.”
And earlier in the campaign, Bannan had this to say on his Sheffield Wednesday future:
“My contract runs out at the end of the season no matter how many games I play or don’t play. That’s the least of my worries, I’m concentrating on trying to perform and trying to win games for the club.”
Dom Howson drops verdict on Barry Bannan future

And taking to X ahead of the Blackburn Rovers clash, journalist Dom Howson gave his verdict on Bannan.
He hailed the Owls hero ahead of his 400th appearance for the club labelling him a ‘modern day Owls legend’.
And Howson also hinted that the club should definitely look to extend Bannan’s stay in S6, saying that Bannan still has ‘so much to offer on and off the pitch’:
A no-brainer for Dejphon Chansiri
Danny Rohl wants to keep Bannan at Sheffield Wednesday which is no surprise.
Though with Bannan reportedly being the Owls’ highest-earner, it might make sense from Dejphon Chansiri‘s point of view to let him go.
But every club has to have a highest-earning player, a captain, and a leader on and off the pitch, which is what Bannan is, so handing him a new deal this summer should be a no-brainer.
And he’s arguably one of the few that would stick with Sheffield Wednesday should they be relegated.
Although he’s not had his most prolific season, he’s still been one of the standout performers, if not the standout performer.
He remains a consistent player whose class can often go amiss, especially when results aren’t there.
Bannan though has featured 39 times this season, having barely missed a game in his nine years at the club, so it can be expected that performance might slowly start to drop near the end of the season.
But for now, he remains a key player and he’ll play a huge role in the final three games of the season.
