Danny Rohl warned of problem that keeps happening to Sheffield Wednesday players after Watford

Sheffield Wednesday put in an abysmal performance against Watford over the weekend, and if Danny Rohl was in any doubt, an EFL expert has now picked out one key issue his players displayed.

In front of a home crowd at Hillsborough on Saturday afternoon, the Owls succumbed to a heavy 6-2 defeat to the Hornets.

Despite the scores being level at half-time, Sheffield Wednesday collapsed after the interval, with Watford converting two penalties and taking control of the game, before adding a fourth with a little over 20 minutes to go.

While Pol Valentin bagged a consolation goal on 82 minutes, Watford completed the rout in the dying moments with two further goals from Vakoun Bayo.

Danny Rohl took drastic measures with his players after the defeat, but now, another problem has been outlined by Championship pundit, Justin Peach.

Sheffield Wednesday made it easy for Watford

Discussing the weekend’s action from the Championship on the Second Tier podcast, Peach and Ryan Dilks dissected the shocking result.

While Watford received plenty of praise, Peach offered up his thoughts on the Owls’ role in the result, and suggested the Sheffield Wednesday squad failed to put up a fight against Watford.

He said: “I do think Sheffield Wednesday had this habit of dropping their heads a little bit when things go against them. I think when Watford scored their third or fourth goal, players just stopped. They stopped doing their jobs.

“I’m not saying that’s the only reason Watford won, but I think Wednesday made it a little bit too easy for them, and that drop-off opened it up for Watford.”

Watford defeat shocked everyone

It was a result that came out of the blue in many ways. While Watford are in solid form under Tom Cleverley this season, Wednesday had been enjoying something of a resurgence themselves of late.

Co-host, Dilks, was stunned by what played out at Hillsborough and suggested this was a blow to the Yorkshire outfit’s hopes of making a push for promotion this season.

He added: “I think we need to put more emphasis on how this result came out of nowhere. Many had been telling us that the play-offs were on once again, for [Wednesday].

“This result was a surprise, and that’s before you even get on to the scoreline. Danny Rohl did admit his players were stunned by the collapse.”

The Owls will now need to dust themselves off and prepare for the visit of Norwich on Tuesday, before the big Steel City derby on Sunday.
