Sheffield Wednesday have experienced and incredible change in fortunes under their new boss.
Danny Rohl has only been Sheffield Wednesday manager for 11 games. But already he’s become a modern day Hillsborough legend.
Xisco Munoz left the team in a mess and nobody thought any manager, of any quality could get a tune out of this side.
But Rohl has. He’s completely transformed the way that Wednesday are playing and their outlook for this season, with Sheffield Wednesday now looking like they have a huge chance of beating the drop.
The German will of course remind everyone that there’s a long way to go, and there is. But Rohl has everyone believing once again.
‘Remarkable’ Rohl hailed by Joe Crann
Speaking in the most recent episode of the Football Heaven podcast, journalist Joe Crann hailed the fact that Rohl has got the fans on board so quickly.
He said:
“It’s remarkable how quickly people have taken to him. I’ve never seen anything like this. In my whole time following Wednesday, I don’t remember a manager getting people on side so fast.”
After 11 games, Rohl has taken 13 points from a possible 33, with Sheffield Wednesday now sitting just six points behind Huddersfield Town in 21st; that’s compared to 11 points adrift after a 3-0 defeat at Plymouth Argyle at the end of October.
Managing expectations at Sheffield Wednesday
The defeat vs Norwich City perhaps reminded everyone that there’s still a huge, uphill battle facing Sheffield Wednesday this season.
Not only do they still have a six-point gap to make up, they still have to compete with the likes of QPR who’ve been putting more points on the board, and then hope that Huddersfield, Millwall, and Stoke City continue to drop points.
Millwall have a new boss in place and Stoke have just poached Steven Schumacher from Plymouth Argyle, so there could be a change in fortunes for the teams around the bottom three.
But right now, Sheffield Wednesday are winning games and beating the teams in and around them, which is all they can do if they want to beat the drop.
Eventually, enough wins will see them move out of the drop zone and so it’s just about remaining focused and remaining confident, but at the same time, still remembering that this season will be a huge slog for the Owls.
