Danny Rohl will of course want his side to finish the year on a high after what’s been a turbulent 2023 for the club, with promotion ad then the controversies and struggles of this season.
But the Owls go into this game in good form and with the chance to achieve something quite impressive.
Sheffield Wednesday eyeing third-straight home win in the Championship
Sheffield Wednesday have now won three of their last four, losing just one of their last five.
They’ve had a draw vs Leicester City and wins over Blackburn Rovers, Stoke City, and QPR, with a defeat away at Norwich City thrown in there.
The Owls can claim a third-straight home win in the Championship when they welcome Cardiff City this weekend, and that’s something they haven’t achieved since February 2021.
Sheffield Wednesday were last in the Championship during the 2020/21 campaign in which they finished in last place; starting the season under Garry Monk, then having a very brief spell under Tony Pulis, before Darren Moore took charge in the March.
Though it was caretaker boss Neil Thompson who oversaw what was actually four-straight wins at home, over Middlesbrough, Derby County, Preston, and Wycombe Wanderers.

Sheffield Wednesday’s 2020/21 season in the Championship was a disastrous one.
They finished in last place despite that upturn in form under Thompson initially, though after that win over Wycombe in February 2021, they went on to lose their next seven, ultimately subjecting them to their eventual relegation.
And whilst many will still tip the Owls for relegation this season, they’re in a much better place now then they were almost three years ago.
Rohl and his backroom team look set to usher in a new generation of Sheffield Wednesday players and breed a new philosophy at the club and a new connection among the players, staff and fans.
Cardiff City is another tough game, though.
The Bluebirds have enjoyed a positive season on the whole but their strong form has since dwindled, with Erol Bulut’s side now having won just one of their last five in the Championship, losing 3-0 at Hull City last time out.
