Danny Rohl has provided an update on John Buckley’s injury after he was forced off in Sheffield Wednesday’s win over QPR.
John Buckley joined the Owls on loan from Blackburn Rovers in the summer but has since struggled for game time, making only two starts since Danny Rohl was appointed manager in October.
The midfielder had been rumoured to return to Ewood Park in January, but his future at Sheffield Wednesday now looks even more bleak as he faces a spell on the sidelines.
Buckley was brought on with 20 minutes to go against QPR last time out, however a crunching challenge shortly after meant the substitute had to be replaced with five minutes to go due to a shoulder injury.
It was unclear how long Buckley could be facing out of action, but Rohl has now confirmed he will be unavailable for the ‘next weeks’.
Speaking to the media ahead of the clash with Cardiff City, Rohl said: “John will be out for the next weeks, that’s for sure. He had an operation today (Thursday), and it doesn’t look good. I called him yesterday in the evening and wished him well, and now we’ll do everything for him to have a quick recovery.
“When I saw the foul I saw immediately his shoulder – I had the same issue when I was younger. It didn’t look well and I was scared about it, and now we know what it is. But I believe we’ll do everything that we can for him to be back as soon as possible.”

John Buckley makes up one space in Sheffield Wednesday‘s 25-man squad, but may not return to action till late January at the earliest.
The 24-year-old’s minutes have been very limited and he hasn’t even made it onto the pitch on eight occasions this season.
With the January transfer window fast approaching, Sheffield Wednesday will have to make some room to bring in any potential new signings, while Momo Diaby would also have to replace someone if he wants to make his way back into the squad.
Danny Rohl is likely desperate to bring in some of his own players as he looks to avoid relegation, so Buckley could be one man who makes way and returns to Blackburn Rovers prematurely.
The likes of Ashley Fletcher and Mallik Wilks have also struggled to impress this term and Rohl may search for an upgrade.
