Sheffield Wednesday midfielder John Buckley may have his loan move ended in January.
Buckley is on loan from fellow Championship side Blackburn Rovers, but has fallen out of favour in recent weeks, causing speculation for him to be recalled in January.
Blackburn manager Jon Dahl Tomasson didn’t want to see Buckley leave but financial restrictions forced his hand, and so the midfielder went onto sign for Sheffield Wednesday on a season-long loan.
The 24-year-old had been a regular for the Owls since his arrival, however, has not started since the 3-0 defeat to Plymouth, where he was taken off at half-time. This game has been im his only start under Danny Rohl.
This would then mean that Wednesday would need to replace him, and with a loan spot potentially left free by his departure, there are options as to who they could look at.
Here are three options that the Owls could look at in January to replace Buckley on loan.
Miguel Azeez
This first one is a bit of a rogue one.
Despite being known as a wonderkid, Azeez had had failed loan moves at Portsmouth, Ibiza and most recently Wigan, where he only made two appearances in the second half of last season as they were relegated from the Championship.
Despite not being at his best currently, a loan move where he is shown support from the fans could be all he needs to excel and show everyone why he was so highly rated at the Gunners.
Tim Iroegbunam
Iroegbunam is a 20-year-old who plays for Aston Villa.
He is yet to make an appearance for Villa’s first team this season, so would be happy to go out on loan to play regular first team football.
He also has experience in a Championship relegation battle, helping QPR avoid relegation last season, as he scored two goals in 32 appearances in the second tier last season.
He is more of a box to box midfielder compared to Buckley, so can provide more support defensively.
Shandon Baptiste
Baptiste is a 25-year-old midfielder who currently plays for Brentford in the Premier League.
Due to injuries he has fallen down the pecking order in West London, only making one appearance in the top flight so far this season.
A loan move with regular game time could be exactly what Baptiste needs to get back to his best, before returning to the Bees in the summer.
Baptiste is a great ball carrier, so would be great for counter attacks, and he also has a venomous strike on him too.
