Sheffield Wednesday manager Danny Rohl has said that he cannot ‘understand’ Wednesday’s form, following yet another loss at Birmingham City.
Wednesday suffered a 2-1 loss on Saturday afternoon, making it five losses from Rohl’s first six in charge at the club.
George Byers gave the Owls the lead in the 45th minute, but Juninho Bacuna equalised for the hosts in the third minute of added on time in the first half.
Jordan James then scored in the 81st minute to give the hits and Blues’ manager Wayne Rooney his first win in charge of the club.
Owls boss struggling to ‘understand’ Wednesday
Speaking to the Sheffield Star following the loss at Birmingham, Rohl said he is struggling to figure out why things are going wrong at Wednesday.
“You look at the 2-1, we have clear habits. I want always to have a number six in front of our back four, we are not able to do the recovery runs, we are not close enough to protect our goal.
“From my side I cannot say that my players did not give everything on the pitch. This makes it hard to understand at the moment. This is what I have told the players. I am here to go forward and prepare for the next game. Sometimes in football you need a point and then you can go.”
Rohl justified for confusion with Wednesday
You can understand Rohl’s frustration.
Especially after having spent the last two weeks with virtually the entire squad, implementing his ideas in the hopes of a result on Saturday.
Wednesday were not bad either and easily could have won it. They ended the game having 16 shots with four of those on target, compared to Birmingham’s 13 shots and four on target.
Some players played well and others not, with Will Vaulks starring, whilst Cameron Dawson was criticised for his performance once again.
With that game being away from home too, it certainly showed performance wise that Wednesday have improved, but clearly it was not enough.
Rohl will be hoping to turn things around once again on Wednesday night when they host league leaders Leicester City.
