Sheffield Wednesday have been brought back down to earth following run of three-straight defeats.
Going into this 2024/25 season, hopes were very high among Sheffield Wednesday fans that their team could become dark horses in the race for top six.
And those hopes were justified following the 4-0 win vs Plymouth Argyle on the opening day of the season.
Sheffield Wednesday then headed to Sunderland where the Owls were expected to do well once again.
But they were beaten 4-0 by Sunderland, and dealt a huge reality check in the process.
Since, Wednesday have lost twice; against Leeds United at Hillsborough, then losing 3-0 vs Millwall in their last outing before the break.
Now, many are wondering if Wednesday are in store for a similar season to the last.
But many also believe that Rohl can quickly turn his side’s fortunes around, with a tough but winnable league fixture against QPR coming up this weekend.

The silver lining for Sheffield Wednesday amid poor recent form
Speaking about Rohl and Sheffield Wednesday on the Not The Top 20 podcast recently, journalist Daniel Storey gave his verdict on this current vein of form.
He explained how this early ‘reality check’ can actually be a good thing for the Owls.
Storey explained: “Maybe this isn’t the worst thing to happen for them, just to get a bit of a reality check.
“Because the squad has got good players in it, but it isn’t enough to be upper echelons of the Championship.
“You look at the strength of some of those clubs above. Just the sheer strength in depth.”
The positives that Sheffield Wednesday and Danny Rohl can take from poor start
It’s difficult to find any positives for Sheffield Wednesday right now.
But like Storey says, the reality check in itself is a positive, as it reminds everyone of the re-building process that the club is currently going through under Rohl and owner Dejphon Chansiri.
The Owls may need at least a couple more transfer windows to get their squad in shape to challenge near the top of the table.
In the meantime, it may keep clubs from looking to poach Rohl from Wednesday, allowing him time to get Wednesday back up and running.
So whilst this current poor form is a worry, it’s a reminder that Rome wasn’t built in a day.
Sooner or later, though, Sheffield Wednesday need to pick up a win, and the longer they go without one, the more difficult it’ll become.
