Sheffield Wednesday and Sheffield United play in the Steel City derby this weekend. And Blades boss Chris Wilder has been ‘hurt’ ahead of the clash, according to a former Blades man.
Chris Wilder takes charge of his fifth Steel City derby this weekend, compared to Danny Rohl in the Sheffield Wednesday dugout who takes charge of his first.
It’s a real battle between of an experienced head in Wilder compared to a younger one in Rohl, who’s certainly turned heads in the Championship over the last year or so.
Right now, Sheffield United sit in 2nd place of the Championship table and Wednesday in 15th, with 10 points separating the two sides after both picked up wins in midweek.
Sheffield Wednesday beat Norwich City 2-0 at Hillsborough, bouncing back from a 6-2 defeat at home to Watford over the weekend, whilst the Blades won at Bristol City.
Sheffield Wednesday midweek win will have ‘hurt’ Chris Wilder
The Owls’ form is often inconsistent, and that’s certainly true ahead of this one with wins, defeats, and a draw in their last five games in all competitions.
Speaking on Football Heaven ahead of the weekend, former Blades man Chris Basham explained how Sheffield Wednesday will be much happier going to Bramall Lane on the back of a win, rather than a defeat.
Basham also says that Wednesday’s win over Norwich City will have ‘hurt’ Wilder, saying: “He’ll be hurt by obviously Sheffield Wednesday winning midweek, because there was a big, big defeat on the weekend.
“But they’ve responded in the right way, and I think that’s what happens in a three-game week.
“So they’ll be buzzing. Sheffield Wednesday will be happy to come to Bramall Lane because it would’ve been a lot tougher if they were coming off the back of a 6-2 defeat.”

Sheffield United recent form ahead of Steel City derby
Sheffield United have quickly closed the gap to Sunderland in 1st with two points currently separating the two, and so the Blades could move top with a win over Wednesday this weekend, depending on Sunderland’s result.
United go into this one in good form too having won their last three, and having won five of their last seven in the Championship.
The Blades came from behind to beat Bristol City in midweek, winning their two games before that by 2-0 scorelines.
In the home form table this season, Sheffield United sit in 4th, with Wednesday in 12th place of the away form table.
