A rival Championship club is plotting a summer move for former Sheffield Wednesday favourite Ian Poveda.
Sheffield Wednesday welcomed Ian Poveda on loan from Leeds United in January this year.
The 24-year-old, two-time Colombian international arrived after playing another bit part role for Leeds United in the first half of the season, featuring just seven times in the Championship.
But Poveda would go on to feature 10 times in the league for Sheffield Wednesday, grabbing one assist.
He played a huge role in the upturn in form and mood at Hillsborough during the second half of last season.
Sheffield Wednesday have been trying to re-sign Poveda after he was released by Leeds United earlier this summer.
Other teams have been linked too; reports earlier this summer revealed that Sunderland, Luton Town, and Burnley were interested in Poveda.
And now it looks like one Championship team in particular are keen to beat the likes of Sheffield Wednesday in the race to sign Poveda this summer.

Sunderland are looking to add more Championship experience to their ranks this summer, having already brought in Simon Moore and Alan Browne on free transfers.
And now the Black Cats could bring in Poveda, who has 55 Championship appearances in his career across spells with Leeds United, and on loan at Sheffield Wednesday, Blackburn Rovers, and Blackpool.
Journalist Dominic Shaw has revealed on X that Sunderland are ‘hoping to beat several Championship rivals’ to the capture of Poveda this summer.

It certainly seems like Sunderland have a greater interest in Poveda than most teams right now.
And it also seems like the Championship remains Poveda’s likeliest destination, though unfortunately for Sheffield Wednesday fans, a return to S6 is starting to look unlikely.
It may be safe to assume that the Owls have long had an offer on the table for Poveda to return, and the fact that he’s not already back at the club may suggest that he’s moved on.
Sunderland would be a good move for Poveda; the Black Cats have appointed a new head coach in Regis Le Bris this summer and look to be making positive changes in the transfer market following their difficult 2023/24 season.
Sheffield Wednesday though have arguably had the most positive summer of any team in the Championship, and their attacking signings so far may mean that a return for Poveda isn’t all that important anymore.
Either way, Owls fans will wish him well in his next move.
