The Millers are all but down and out, sitting in last place of the table and 16 points adrift after defeat vs QPR last time out, whilst the Owls remain in 23rd and three points from safety.
Danny Rohl‘s side have won three of their last four now, beating Bristol City 2-1 in their last outing.
Stoke City have joined Wednesday in the drop zone after a run of one win in seven, whilst Millwall beat Southampton last time out to give themselves some breathing space.
Barry Bannan shares 11-word message ahead of Rotherham United
Speaking after another positive win in the Championship, and ahead of another crucial outing for Sheffield Wednesday, club captain Barry Bannan has shared a message with supporters.
He posted on Instagram yesterday:
Leam Richardson’s Rotherham have lost their last six in the Championship now.
They’ve won just one of their last 22 in all competitions, in a run stretching all the way back to October.
And it was against Rotherham whom Sheffield Wednesday picked up their first win of the season and their first win of the Rohl era, winning 2-0 at Hillsborough thanks to two goals from Michael Smith.
Another cup final for Sheffield Wednesday
The proverbial ‘cup final’ will be heard from now until the end of the season.
Sheffield Wednesday have 12 games left to salvage their Championship status and a game against bottom club Rotherham United is arguably their best chance of the season to put three points on the board.
And Wednesday go into this one in good form and with plenty of confidence. Though there’s no doubting that this fixture remains a potential banana skin for the Owls, especially given the derby element.
What’s more is that the teams in and around Sheffield Wednesday seem to be finding form as well; Huddersfield Town have won three of their last five, Birmingham City two of their last three, and QPR their last two.
So Sheffield Wednesday need to find a way of keeping this momentum going and the next two games (at home vs Plymouth Argyle after Rotherham) are crucial for Rohl and his side, who then go up against promotion-chasers Leeds United and Ipswich Town.
But with an in form Bannan in their ranks, pulling the strings and rallying up the players, and with Rohl in the dugout too, anything is possible for the Owls.
