The Sheffield Wednesday captain has been impressed by how the new signings have adapted so far.

Sheffield Wednesday’s pre-season training camp is well underway as German boss Danny Rohl looks to prepare his squad for the 2024/25 Championship season.

Rohl will look to get his side to continue their fine run of form following the business end of last season, in which they miraculously stayed up on the final game of the season.

The Owls have already had their first pre-season match, in which they were victorious against Alfreton Town, with signings including the likes of Olaf Kobacki impressing the Wednesday faithful.

Rohl has certainly got his business done early to ensure maximum preparation for the upcoming campaign, with his options being bolstered by the likes of Max Lowe, Yan Valery and Jamal Lowe joining the squad.

However, there are some individual signings who have impressed club captain Barry Bannan since they arrived at the club.

Barry Bannan ‘really impressed’ with Sheffield Wednesday’s foreign signings

The Scottish veteran midfielder was full of praise for Sheffield Wednesday’s foreign signings at the start of the 2024/25 Championship season, including the likes of Svante Ingelsson and Kobacki who signed for the club at the start of July.

Speaking to the club on Youtube, he said: “The other new boys have been brilliant.

“Their English is amazing which is half the battle because obviously it’s not their first language but they come over here and they can speak great English which is much easier for them.

“They can communicate on the pitch so I’ve been really impressed.”

How crucial it is that Sheffield Wednesday’s new signings settle quickly

On the surface, it seems as if Sheffield Wednesday’s new signings have truly settled into life in S6 very quickly.

It can sometimes prove to be a double-edged sword when there is a squad overhaul, with many players coming in. Unrest can be caused amongst existing ranks, whilst it makes it more difficult for new players to adapt, however, none of this seems to have happened with the Owls.

Rohl has managed his squad very well to make it as easy as possible for the new faces to settle in, something that will be crucial if Sheffield Wednesday are to start positively this campaign.

Those unfamiliar with the English football set-up, or with Rohl’s playing style have the benefit of time under their belt prior to the season starting, with Sheffield Wednesday getting their business close to completion so early on, something that will be massive for the new players.
