Sheffield Wednesday are reportedly closing in on their eighth signing of the summer.
The Owls have gone quiet in recent days after a huge signing spree that saw the likes of Jamal Lowe and Svante Ingelsson join the club.
However, recent reports have claimed that Sheffield Wednesday are set to bring in another attacker.
It was reported last week that the Yorkshire outfit are interested in signing Rangers’ Scott Wright, and things seem to move very quickly as it was then claimed that he could join the club ‘in the next 48 hours’ on Saturday.
48 hours are now up though and it looks like Wright is much further from moving to Hillsborough than first believed.
Scott Wright travels to the Netherlands with Rangers
The Scottish Sun published photos of the Rangers players at the airport ahead of their pre-season trip to the Netherlands, with the article claiming that Wright was among the Scottish Premiership stars.
Rangers are set to take on Ajax in Wezep this weekend, but it still remains unclear whether Wright will be part of their match-day squad.
The 26-year-old was thought to be very close to joining Wednesday, but if it was that close then he surely would have remained in the UK to continue talks and undergo a medical.
Can Wright be another Ian Poveda?
The Owls are preparing for their own pre-season training camp at St George’s Park next week and they will be eager to have a bulk of new signings included as they prepare for the 2024/25 campaign.
They still have plenty of time to complete a deal for Wright though, while he won’t exactly have to travel far if he needs to return from the Netherlands to put pen to paper.
It still seems to be a risky signing for Wednesday given his lack of goal contributions in Scotland, but Danny Rohl is the best man for the job when it comes to reigniting stuttering players’ careers.
The German got the very best out of Ian Poveda who only has four senior goals to his name, so there’s no reason why he can’t transform Wright into another brilliant player.
